Escape!

Well I finally did it. I left and I am not going back. Turns out I am just like dear old dad, leaving with no intention to return. I do worry about how they will get by, by mother is inventive and will come up with something, she will be okay. I just worry about Laura, but I could not stay in that house any longer between all the fights and that fiasco with Jim, I just couldn't stand it anymore. Who knows where I will end up now, maybe one day I will run into my good old dad and we can have a couple of laughs about all this. Not that I would be inclined to laugh at anything he says, but I can't outright deck if we ever meet up, that would make me a hypocrite and all that. At least I finally get to have the adventures that I want and the Merchant Marine should offer plenty of excitement.

Job

Well I got a job today at the Continental Shoemakers warehouse. I do not like this job one bit, but mother insisted on me getting one and that was the only one that came up. It seems like it will be a soul-crushing job that will kill any creativity a person would have. It is not all bad though. This guy I used to go to school with, Jim OConnor, works there as well. Things should not be too bad with a familar face around. I only took the job because we do need the money and I can't leave Laura without support. Although sometimes I wish dad would have taken me with him when he left, maybe one day I can escape on my own.

Fight

I can not believe that she did that! She is such a dreadful, terrible, spiteful woman! She had no right to take that back without my permission. Of course I am talking about mother and her 17 gentleman callers all in a neat little row ready to take their turns riding her broomstick. She took my DH Lawrence book back to the library without my permission and this of course turned into a massive fight. I last my temper and went into a little speech about opium dens, mobsters, and assorted other bad things. I of course do not partake in such activities, but she already thinks I do. I just don't understand why a man with a soul-crushing job can't enjoy a book or go see a movie without it turning into WW 2. I wish I could leave this town forever, but I can't leave Laura all alone with that woman.
